Tools required to appropriately tackle the 2020 SHPE Cybersecurity Challenge:
Kali Linux running on VirtualBox (recommended). Available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and others. Both of these tools are available for download at no monetary charge. Another free alternative to Virtualbox is VMware Workstation.

- Select the Kali Linux VirtualBox 64-Bit OVA File for download
- Oracle VirtualBox (110 MB file Size): https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
- Select the VirtualBox 6.1.14 platform packages for download
Once both files are download, follow the instructions below to install Kali Linux on VirtualBox.
- Install VirtualBox on your C Drive
- Run VirtualBox, select 'Tools' fromt the left sidebar and then click on the 'Import' button on the top bar
- Browse for the the Kali Linux .ova file downloaded from the link above and click 'Next' and then 'Next' one more time after you've selected your preferences
- Once Kali Linux is installed, selected Kali Linux 2020 from the left side bar and then click on 'Start' from the top bar
- If you get an error while trying to start Kali Linux, exit out of the error dialog box and click on 'Settings' on the top bar, select USB from the left sidebar settings and unclick the 'Enable USB Controller' box. Retry starting Kali Linux.
- When prompted, the username and password are both 'kali'.

It is encouraged that each time utilized all tools available online to complete the Cybersecurity Challenge! However, it is against the rules to obtain assistance from an individual who is not a member of the team, unless it is the event coordinator(s) or NSA mentors.
